Watches & The America’s Cup – A Long History
The other day I was watching this special on TV about the new catamarans that were sailing in the Americas Cup. I cant remember what channel it was on, but it was intense. These things can literally fly across the water and they are a new racing breed of boat and will just be tried out on the water in a race for the first time in the 34th Americas Cup.
This is such a big deal, because it is big bucks to build these boats, and its not just the boat makers and the computer giants and big brands that get behind these racers to make these races happen, but the high-end watches as well. Look at Rolex and yacht racing and now there is JeanRichard as the official timepiece of the classic rivalry between Oxford and Cambridge.
But, what does this have to do with The Americas Cup? Everything.
