I always wondered why they called the functions on a watch the watch complication. Is it because they make the watch more complicated to work or is it because the complications make it more complicated to build the inner workings of the watch? So, in light of learning watch anatomy and all things watches I thought this would be a really good topic to cover.Details
What is considered vintage and what is just old? I get many people who email me or call and ask me if they have, what would be considered a vintage watch, or if their watch is just old. So I think that it’s time to set the record straight as to what makes a watch vintage.Details
Rolex stands for many things, but the main thing it stands for is fine watches. We decided that a timeline was in order of the history of the watches that Rolex has produced over the years. Follow the rich history from when the Rolex name became a registered trademark to present day, where the brand…Details
Watch anatomy can be a general topic, but I know that there are plenty of watch aficionados and collectors that are specific about what brands they want to know about, so I am going to talk about Rolex bracelets today.
The Rolex bracelets are very distinct and if you are thinking of becoming a collector of this prestigious brand, then it is important that you be able to recognize the different aspects of the models so you can tell the real from the fake, as well as the year the watch you are looking at was produced and the actual worth.Details
After our Oscar respite from watch anatomy, it is time to continue our quest of the different parts of a watch. Today we are going to talk about the watch straps, watch bracelets and watch buckles. You might be thinking that a watch strap and a watch bracelet are the same thing, but they actually are not.
Before I get into the differences though, this is an important part of the watch anatomy because this is what keeps the watch on your wrist. Of course, I know you already know that, but for those that don’t, I thought I would mention it just in case!Details
You’ve got to love the Oscar’s. The pomp and circumstance as the actors parade up and down the red carpet, stopping at just the right time for pictures from the crowd and paparazzi. Showing their dresses and jewels, tuxes and shoes off to a tee. As if they have trained their whole careers for this one moment.
Of course, we all know they did spend that whole day getting ready for that one moment in the spotlight of borrowed time, because we know no one gets up looking that fabulous. And fabulous they looked. I gave out Diamond Awards on The Diamond Buyer for Best Jewelry for the red carpet yesterday, and today I want to give out Watch Awards for best watches on the red carpet at the Oscars in 2013.Details
Today we are going to step away from the series on watch anatomy for minute to talk about how to refresh your watch. I am really fickle when it comes to watches, and I break up with them pretty easily. It’s not a good quality, and I am trying to find the good in my watches and stick to them longer, but I get bored.
If you buy good quality then you know that you can get your money out, so it’s easy to put them on eBay or find a dealer and sell them and get most, if not all, of your money out. And, if you are a watch dealer, like me, it’s even easier to sell your watch and move on the next thing that has caught your eye.Details
I have always thought of myself as the King of my Castle, wearing the crown in my house, but the truth is, it has always been my wife who has worn the crown in my family. She is the Queen of my world, my home, my life and lucky for me, the Queen of me. Yeah, I’m whipped, and I’m not afraid to admit it. But this is not the type of crown of that I am talking about. This crown you don’t wear on your head, but on your wrist. Well, on your watch, which is on your wrist.
The watch crown commands just as much power as the crown that you wear on your head. The watch crown controls the movement of the watch, just like the crown of royalty controls and commands respect of the subjects. Every watch has a crown.Details
Another piece that fits into the watch case is the watch face. Now, you all aren’t dumb, so I don’t need to tell you that the watch hands point to the numbers on the watch face and this is how you tell the time. And, because I have the smartest readers out there, I also don’t need to tell you that the day or date feature, if the watch has one, would be located somewhere on the watch face.
I also don’t think I have to say that the watch face sits under the crystal so it can remain pristine, and that it can be easily damaged by water or dust and that it is a very delicate part of the watch, right? I didn’t think I needed to tell any of you that, so I am going to talk about the different types of faces there are.Details
The watch crystal is the clear covering that sits over the watch face. It houses the watch hands and usually the edges are covered by the bezel. The crystal will more often than not fit inside the watch case, although this doesn’t mean that the case or bezel is holding down the crystal.
What’s important about the watch crystal is that it is a hard surface and that is fairly resistant to scratches, although it can scratch, chip and get scuffed over time. Also, it is important that the crystal is secure because it protects the face of the watch from water and dirt and other environmental influences that your watch can come in contact with.Details
