The Pocket Watch

Pocket WatchTo me there is nothing more beautiful than a pocket watch, and I sometimes wish I lived during the days when men wore pocket watches on chains and hung them in their pockets.  I think pocket watches are elegant and beautiful, especially when they are well made and in fabulous vintage condition.

I have to admit that I don’t see a lot of pocket watches come across my desk as a watch buyer, but I did get to see the most fabulous pocket watch I believe Jonathan’s Watch Buyer has ever owned to date.  A Patek Philippe made for N. Matson & Co. in Chicago 18 kt. Gold pocket watch.

Rolex Milgauss – Rolex Watch Series

Rolex MilgaussHow can you NOT love a watch that has an orange lightning bolt for a second hand? The Rolex Milgauss is such a fine watch. Here’s what’s so cool about it. It not only looks fantastic, but it really is a neat watch with a very interesting history. I bought my Milgauss because I loved the heft of the watch and the way it looked. I’ll be honest and admit that I knew nothing about the science behind the watch when I purchased the watch. I owned this watch for about 2 months when a customer begged me to buy it off my wrist. Will I buy another one? Absolutely.

The Three-Finger Rule

Rolex Jubilee BraceletDid you know that you can tell a lot about your watch by just three fingers? You can. I’ve actually touched on this subject before on my other site, Jonathan’s Diamond Buyer, about if you need too.

The three-finger rule, which I made up by the way, is to see if your bracelet is in good shape or not. Now, I didn’t make up the way to see if your watch bracelet is in good shape, but I did make up the name, the three-finger rule.

Rolex DateJust Lady 31 Model 178271

Rolex DateJust Lady 31Lately the watches that have come across my desk have been so gorgeous I want to buy them all for my wife, and myself but alas, my wallet and my business don’t work that way. Most of the watches that I buy go into our vault here at work and stay there for months before they make into a new wrist or are sold on eBay.

Sometimes they are traded with other watch dealers, which is always great, depending on what the trade is for, but this beauty is one of those watches that when it comes in, any watch dealer is thrilled for a few reasons.

1. It’s a relatively new model
2. It’s a midsize ladies model
3. It’s only a couple of years old and in excellent condition
4. It’s rose gold and stainless
5. It’s scattered diamonds around the bezel
