On 11 May 2013, Sotheby’s Geneva will have Saturday watch fever by presenting a watch auction that will feature over 400 different brands that cover two centuries of watch history.  This sale has been curated to include some of the finest timepieces from the 19th century through the present day.

If you are lucky enough to be able to visit or bid on any of these luxury watches, you can expect to find watches from Rolex, Patek Philippe, IWC and Auedmars Piguet.  The total sale from this watch auction is expected to raise more than ch 6.5 million.

Geoffroy Ader, Head of Watches for Sotheby’s Europe, said:

The current watch auction market is driven by two main trends: the unfettered desire for star brands, on the one hand, and on the other hand, a strong and ever-increasing demand for iconic models. The May sale has been carefully curated to meet collectors’ expectations. Following the outstanding results achieved by our watch sale in Hong Kong earlier this month – the highest total ever achieved for a sale of timepieces both by Sotheby’s worldwide and in Asia – we look forward to welcoming watch connoisseurs for our first Saturday sale in Geneva.

The auction will also have a fine selection of antique pocket watches led by an exceptional gold and hard stone center seconds octagonal watch set with pearls. Made for the Chinese market in circa 1800, this exquisite timepiece is signed by William Ilbery, an English watchmaker credited for the finest timepieces produced for the Chinese market.
