Panerai Watch Crown

Panerai Watch CrownI have always thought of myself as the King of my Castle, wearing the crown in my house, but the truth is, it has always been my wife who has worn the crown in my family.  She is the Queen of my world, my home, my life and lucky for me, the Queen of me.  Yeah, I’m whipped, and I’m not afraid to admit it.  But this is not the type of crown of that I am talking about.  This crown you don’t wear on your head, but on your wrist.  Well, on your watch, which is on your wrist.

The watch crown commands just as much power as the crown that you wear on your head.  The watch crown controls the movement of the watch, just like the crown of royalty controls and commands respect of the subjects.  Every watch has a crown.

The Function of The Watch Crown

The most common functions of the watch crown are to set the time, date and day, wind the watch or stop the watch. Sometimes the crown can act as a stopwatch, time zone, and count down timer. The crown also aids water resistance by sealing it against the case.

The crown is attached to a watch stem that sticks into the watch movement allowing you to make manual changes to the watch that are both electronic and mechanical.

The Pusher and The Crown

Otherwise dubbed a ‘push-piece’ or a ‘push-button’, this button is mounted on a watch’s case to control specific functions, such as timing functions in a chronograph.  It can look like a crown – the main difference is that a buttons only feature is pushing in for desired feature.
