Rolex Style: Summer Submariner and Sox

Rolex StyleI have been doing a lot of thinking about this blog and site and what I want to accomplish here.  I want to buy your watches and I want to sell you watches, but what I really love is to style the watches that I am getting, and yes, I love to style my own watches.  It’s amazing what the change of a band can do paired up with a couple of awesome bracelets and some fab shoes and you have a smoking outfit!

So, I am going to start to show you how I like to style and change this from just a blog about watches to a blog about style and watches and men’s style and well just fun.

How To Afford and Buy A Rolex Watch: A Guide by Jonathan’s Watch Buyer

Rolex GMT-Master III remember the day when I bought my first Rolex.  I was going on vacation right before the 4th of July weekend, and I had saved up for this watch for months.  I had been buying and selling Rolex watches for a while and knew which one I wanted. I wanted the Submariner.  I had my eye on the perfect one and when I found it, I knew it was the watch.

Because I was out of town when it was supposed to arrive, I had it sent to the lodge where I was staying with my family.  I couldn’t sleep the night before, that’s how excited I was.  But, FedEx came and went and the watch didn’t show up.  I tracked it down to the FedEx station about 100 miles away and in my obsession to have that Rolex on my wrist, left my family and drove to the station.  No watch.  They tracked it onto a truck that was supposed to bring it to the station the following day.

I didn’t get my watch until after the holiday was over because of a series of mishaps and cluster f*cks, and even with all of that, it didn’t spoil the moment I slipped that stainless steel bracelet on my wrist and felt the weight of the Rolex on my wrist.

I feel that way every time I buy a new Rolex and I want to help you have that feeling too.

What Kind of Rolex Watch Style Defines You?

Rolex Watch StyleI’ve already said that you can call me Sporty.  And, I am sporty.  I don’t go for watches that are elegant; it’s just not my style.  I appreciate them and love to look at them and love to collect them for the value that they represent and even buy them for Jonathan’s Watch Buyer, but I don’t wear them.  I have these really big ham hands, and now I’m all scarred up, because my dang dog bit my thumb while I was teasing him, long story.

Anyway, because Rolex is my favorite of all watch brands and I am a bit biased when it comes to writing, collecting and discussing Rolex, I thought I would do a post about the various Rolex watch styles and then in the comments, I want you to tell me which Rolex watch style you are and why!

Rolex Watch Modifications, Are you a Believer?

Rolex Watch ModificationsIt seems that lately the rage is all about modifying your beautiful Rolex watch.  I am a watch buyer and a watch lover and most specifically a Rolex watch collector and fan, and I’m not so sure how I feel about the modifications that I am seeing on these Rolex’s.

I know that personally, although I think many of these looks are cool, I wouldn’t go and take my Sub or my GMT-Master and let anyone touch them with anything to make them other than the way they are supposed to be and Rolex intended them to be.  But, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t right for someone else.  After all, it’s free will and what’s good for someone else just might not be right for the other guy.

Something important to remember though, if you buy a Rolex watch that has been blinged out or modified in any way by anyone other than Rolex, it voids any warranty with Rolex and they will not do any work on your watch. Period.  So, be sure that whomever you purchase your Rolex from that did the work on it has a good warranty!!

Watch Anatomy: The Watch Case

Example of an Antique Watch CaseYesterday we talked about the watch hands and how important they are when it comes to the watch anatomy, but if you don’t have a watch case, then the hands have no where to rest.  The watch case consists of the bezel, the middle and the back of the watch.  This is where the movement is housed and protected and it can be made of many different types of material.

Over the years, the watch case has been a shape shifter, going from traditional shapes to more contemporary and fluid shapes, where now almost anything goes.  This also stays in line with the materials that are being used for the case.  Traditionally the case is made of stainless steel, but over the years, this has also changed and grown.
